Volunteer
Volunteers are essential to the success of the Greater Berks Food Bank.

In order to sort, package and distribute all of the donated food, the GBFB is always on the lookout for individuals to volunteer. Corporate, church and school groups are always welcome, as well. Here are a few things to keep in mind.
- Volunteers are needed to sort and repack donated food in our warehouse.
- Volunteers are also needed to assist with mass mailings.
- Volunteers are needed Monday though Friday as well as occasional Saturdays.
- Groups and individuals are welcome to volunteer.
- Because the GBFB is a warehouse, you must be at least 12 years old to volunteer and be accompanied by an adult if younger than 16 years old.
- Volunteers in our warehouse need to wear closed-toe shoes.

If you would like to volunteer, please download this form and return it to the GBFB via fax or mail. You can also call the GBFB at 610-926-5802 extension 212 to be added to our volunteer email list or with any additional questions.
Once a month, the GBFB has a volunteer opportunity appropriate for a group of up to 35 volunteers – perfect for companies that would like a team-building experience as well as churches, schools, families, or groups of friends. Please contact the GBFB at 610-926-5802 extension 212 to get further information.
School and Community Service Hours
If you are in need of school or community service hours please contact the Greater Berks Food Bank’s warehouse supervisor at 610-926-5802 extension 204 to see if a mutually-beneficial opportunity exists.
School and community service hours are only available on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the occasional Saturday morning.
Volunteering at our Agencies
Many individuals would like to volunteer at one of the 250 food programs we support. Our agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters) all arrange for their own volunteers. Please consult the list of programs found on the Programs page and contact them directly to see if a volunteer opportunity exists.
One suggestion – many of these agencies are overwhelmed with volunteer requests around Thanksgiving and Christmas and can not accommodate all of the requests. Please remember, hunger is a year-round problem and many of these agencies, as well as the Greater Berks Food Bank, often are in need of volunteers throughout the rest of the year. |
