The GBFB has won a "No Kid Hungry" $25,000 award!

On July 8, Share Our Strength announced the winners of the three "No Kid Hungry" Innovation Awards - valued at $25,000 each. The GBFB won the "Beyond the Lunch Line" category! Thank you to all of our supporters who voted for us online and who helped spread the word to vote amongst friends, family, and colleagues. This award will allow us to expand our new Produce for Kids program in the upcoming school year - providing fresh fruits and veggies to many, many at-risk elementary school kids in the city of Reading.

Join in the fun of the Grow and Share Program

Members from several area churches recently created a program they call Grow and Share. The participants commit to planting a couple extra vegetable plants in their home garden to donate the crop to the Greater Berks Food Bank. A couple of the churches even planted gardens on their grounds! It is not too late to have your place of worship join in. Check out this website for more info: Community UCC - Grow and Share Program.

Do you not have garden space but want to participate? Grow Bags (5 gallon plastic bags designed to hold soil for planting) and garden soil are available for free (a donation is encouraged). See the website for the contact info to get these resources.

Companies - please help by sponsoring an event

Companies are encouraged to contact the GBFB's Manager of Marketing and Development, Doug Long, to learn about becoming a sponsor of one of our 2010 events. Not only will you help the Food Bank defer the costs of these events so we can devote more funds to helping the hungry, you will be showing your community that your organization is a partner in helping our less fortunate neighbors. Doug can be reached at 610-926-5802 ext. 212 or via email at dslong@feedingamerica.org.
