Food Industry Donations
Did youknow that many area food manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, distributors and farmers have something in common? It’s true - they take the extra step to donate surplus food products to the Greater Berks Food Bank.
Many area companies are saving money and eliminating waste by donating their surplus and imperfect, yet edible, products to the Greater Berks Food Bank. Companies are protected from liability for their donations through the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act of 1996. Donating companies can also receive tax benefits as allowed by law.

Donations of items due to surplus production, discontinuation, imperfect or underweight packaging, quality control, approaching expiration dates and additional reasons offer nutritious food to those in need while providing cost-savings in warehousing and disposal charges for food that otherwise would end up in a landfill.
The Greater Berks Food Bank is equipped to accept donations of dry, refrigerated and frozen products. We also accept non-food, personal care items such as shampoo and toothpaste, along with household items like paper goods and cleaning supplies. The GBFB will even pick up the donation, saving the donating company's transportation expenses.
If you are an existing food industry donor, please contact the GBFB’s operations department at 610-926-5802 extension 210 to schedule a pickup or drop off.
If you are a new food industry donor please contact the GBFB’s development department at 610-926-5802 extension 212 to establish an account.
Food Drive Donations
Food drives are a wonderful way for food to reach the needy. By holding a food drive, you will be able to collect a variety of needed items for the hungry. To hold a food drive of your own, please download our Food Drive Coordinator’s Manual.
If you have any further questions about food drive please contact the GBFB’s development department at 610-926-5802 extension 212.
